I make a lot of attempts to Go Green on a daily basis. I first step was switching light bulbs. Since my hubby wasn't too big on the idea of switching to the lower watt energy saver bulbs, I switched just one. Hey! It's a start! He thought he would notice a big difference in the lighting and there is not much difference. I say we change more now...we will see what he says about that :) Maybe this weekend...
Next is that we recycle all our cans and bottles. We get a decent amount of money back too. Okay, I say decent but like $5.00 a bag or so. That turns into a mocha for each of us or laundry money. Speaking of laundry, I only use cold water..except for towels and sheets (gotta use hot for those!) Next with water is taking a shorter shower under 5 minutes on a good day and under 7 minutes on a bad day. And I turn the water off when I brush my teeth. Or hey, I brush in the shower, that's always fun!
And lastly my big change is using reusable bags! My hubby listened to me the other day when I was saying I wanted to switch to reusable bags. While he was recruiting at a job fair in Hollywood today, he got me reusable bags from Albertson's. He even stole me an extra one :) I am making him GREEN! He says I am trying to make him into a Washingtonian....well, maybe I am ;)

I LOVE it! We were just talking about reusable bags and got these HUGE (of course) one's at Costco. Teagan climbs in them and pretends it's her bathtub. I had switched a bulb in our living room lamp (I'm the one who doesn't like the color, etc.) and was just thinking how I really didn't notice a change, until Duffy told me it was really a regular bulb, he'd taken the energy saver and put it in at outside fixture!
I've been trying to do this also. You feel better when you do. Olympia Lighting is selling the energy saver light bulbs, 100 for $25. Crazy cheap!
We do a bunch of those things too. I changed bulbs, we are way into reuseable bags and I do the cold water for laundry too.
I must confess though, I have a hard time taking short showers.
We have also taken steps to monitor the heat in our apartment. We insulated the door and wear sweaters instead of turning on the heat. Last but not least we've also switched to buying organic, local meat ... 1)it is enviro-friendly and 2)there is practically no fat which is amazing! My next thing is to find a local egg place ... GOING GREEN IS FUN!
